Cider and Seafood

In Nova Scotia, we’re fortunate to have so many seafood options available to us. While many people are quick to point to local white wine as a perfect seafood pairing, keep in mind that our terroir produces another light, refreshing beverage that could also do the trick. Cider and seafood, anyone?

When pairing ciders and seafood dishes, there’s an important factor to consider; not all ciders are the same, and there are many kinds of fish in the sea to consider for your pairing. Keeping in mind different flavours and textures, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular seafood dishes, and paired them appropriately with your favourite Bulwark cider.

BULWARK ORIGINAL

The medium-dry and tannic nature of our Original cider is a refreshing addition to any meal featuring oily fish, such as trout, tuna or mackerel. It also serves as a perfect pairing for any seafood dish that is served with a rich sauce.

BULWARK BLUSH

Our sweetest cider provides a flavour base that will perfectly complement lots of salmon dishes.

BULWARK GOLD

Raw shellfish, like oysters and shrimp, tend to work best with a cider that isn’t aggressive in taste. The light taste of our Gold cider will allow the freshness of any shellfish to shine through.

BULWARK HOPPED

With its strong citrus flavours, our Hopped cider makes a great pairing for a fish and chips dinner. Its refreshing acidity and lively carbonation will help cleanse your palette as you enjoy any fried seafood. It also makes a great complement to a lobster dinner!
